Common Myths About PGWP

Myth: If I graduate from a DLI, I automatically qualify for a PGWP?

Fact: Graduation from a Designated Learning Institution is necessary, but you must meet other eligibility criteria, including program length and online study conditions.

Myth: “If I completed part of my program online, I cannot get a PGWP.”

Fact: Completing online courses does not automatically disqualify you. However, if more than 50% of your studies were online, it may reduce the duration of your PGWP.

How to Apply for a PGWP

Once you’ve completed your program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), you can apply for a PGWP. To apply for your PGWP, you’ll need to submit an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Remember to apply within 180 days of receiving your final marks or completion letter. Your PGWP will be issued based on the duration of your program (up to 3 years for programs longer than 2 years) or the validity of your passport, whichever comes first.
